Mattel Knitting Machine

I managed to get a 1974 mattel knitting machine from ebay and it works beautifuly. My R.A. has REALLY been bothering me a lot lately and the crank knitter has not been bothering it at all. I’m one of those people who needs to constantly be doing something with my hands (I start to get stressed out if I don’t. Crafting enhances my calm.) and R.A. can slow that down quite a bit. I can see myself using this little cutie a lot. The one I bought still had the pattern book with it, so it was a really lucky find. I’ve been making the “puffs” or “granny circles” that are in the book. They are supposed to be sewn together to make something larger. They are basically a knitted version of the yo yo’s that people make out of cloth.

Loom Knit Complaint

I enjoy loom knitting, but I don’t do it as often as needle knitting, because there just aren’t that many patterns for loom knitting out there. There are quite a few for the large gauge looms like the knifty knitters, but very few for the smaller gauge. My preference is for smaller gauge. I just like the way it looks better. I wish more people would realize what a nice tool knitting looms are and start making patterns for them. Since I live in Texas, preferably something other than HATS. If someone could make a pattern book full of small gauge loom knitted toys… That would be awesome. Please and Thank You.

Knitting Goodies

I love it when my piggy bank gets full! It means I get to make a trip to the local coin star machine then shopping for crafting goodies. Today I was able to score TWO really awesome things with my piggy bank money. The first one is a 1970’s Mattel knitting machine with the pattern book. My main reason for wanting it is so I can make a knitted version (rather than the sewn version) of yo yo’s. The instructions for the knitting machine calls them “granny circles”. The other thing I got was the kb all-n-one loom. It can be a round loom, knitting board, and a rake knitter. I’ve wanted that thing since I first laid eyes on it, but just haven’t been able to because of the price and distance I would have to drive to get it. (after paying for the gas to get to hobby lobby I wouldn’t have enough money left to buy the loom!) but I was able to get it today because it was 40% off. *happy dance* So excited

EDIT: After I received the knitting machine the year that is printed on the bottom is 1974

Cheer Leader

I totally forgot to show you the cheer leader outfit I knitted! This pattern is from the fun to knit doll clothes book. Like most of the patterns in the book it was simple to make, but still very cute. 🙂

In the mood to sew

Felt like sewing lately. Like before it’s hand sewn, not machine. I really only like using my sewing machine for larger projects, like clothes for an adult or older child. Sometimes I’ll use it if I need to make several things and I’m in a time crunch. Other than that it’s hand sewing for me. Just something about it I find relaxing. One of the things I’ve sewn is a doll dress for my 14.5″ fisher price “little mommy sweet as me” doll. The dress is from a McCall’s sewing pattern. The pattern number is (M4338) and the dress is listed as (D). The other thing I made is another “dinky dinky” from dinkybaby.com I also knitted him a little bear to hold. That was a free knitting pattern I got from here. I used sock yarn and size 2 needles to make him. I also cut the numbers in the pattern in half to get him the size I needed him to be.

Robe

Robe and House shoes

Here is the latest thing I’ve made. This pattern is another one from the “Fun to knit doll clothes” book. It’s one of my favorite pattern books for sure. Lots of simple to make designs. Good for any skill level. I have no idea what kind of yarn that is that I used. It’s from a huge ball that my husband found on the clearance aisle at Walmart and got it for me. I do know it’s considered bulky weight.

Blanket Done!

Finally finished! I would have gotten it done a long time ago, but I got frustrated with our pets. They just wouldn’t stay off of it while I was working on it! That made it impossible for me to be able to turn my work when I needed to and that is twice for every row. What I ended up doing was to spend a Saturday at the car lot with my husband and work on it there.
