A Crafty Update

What have I been up to? Humm…. Well I’ve been working on my daughters scarf off and on. I have that almost finished. I completed a dishcloth last night that I came across. I had forgotten I had started it a while back. hehe And I have about three feet of hen and chicks tatted lace edging done. I don’t know how long I’m going to make it. I figure I’ll just keep working on it until I decide I have enough. I was thinking it would be nice to put it on either my bedroom curtains, living room curtains, or maybe the bottom of a couple of shirts or a dress.

I got a couple of crafty gifts for Christmas. My cousin gave me a 2008 Knitting Pattern-a-Day Calendar and a friend of mine sent me a little mini lunch box (about three inches wide and two and a half inches high) it was full of home made candy. I gave the candy to DH and the kids and have been using the little box to keep my tatted lace in. I really like both of my gifts. I’ll post a picture when I get a chance.

Tatted Snowflake.

Here’s the picture I promised of the tatted snowflake I made. It’s wonky, but I don’t think it’s too bad for a first attempt.

mock picots and split rings

I’m switching back and fourth working on my daughters scarf for a little while then practicing my tatting. So far I’ve learned how to do two new things with the tatting. I’ve added being able to do mock picots and split rings to my tatting arsonal. hehe. I’m pretty happy about it.  I’ve now moved beyond my little tatted star and I’m working on a more complicated snowflake. I’m going to try to make as many of these as I can before Christmas (I want to give a few away) I’ll post a picture as soon as I finish this one so you guys can see. 🙂

Is my daughter a tatter?!

Is my daughter a tatter?! Could be! She decided to give shuttle tatting a try last night. So far I’ve taught her how to make a chain and a picot. The verdict is still not out yet, but she seems to be enjoying herself. (I’ve got my fingers crossed)

What got her intrested was when she saw the tatted stars I learned to make. As soon as she saw what I had done, she picked up one of my shuttles, studied it, watched me for a little while, then asked if I would mind showing her how to do it. Of corse since I’ve been trying to get her intrested in some sort of craft for several years now. I was thrilled she even asked. She actualy cought on to what I showed her fairly quick, which is encouraging, because as with most tweens and teens as well as some adults, if something is too chalanging for them, they give up on it quickly. So the fact that she was catching on before she got discouraged has me hopefull. As a matter of fact I’m so hopeful that I’ve already started shopping around on the internet for tatting supplys to give her for Christmas. LOL! I know, I know, I’m not going to start buying stuff already, I’m going to give it about a week, to see if she is still enjoying herself. If she is still doing it after a week, I can be pretty sure it’s something she likes and will most likely continue to do.

Here is a picture of one of the stars I made that got her intrested.

Crochet Birthday Snake

I found out Sunday that we have a birthday party to go to this weekend. Here’s the problem. I don’t want to buy the little boy a piece of **** that will break, but we don’t have the money to buy him anything nice right now. So the only way we can give him something nice is if I make him something, but I WAS ONLY GIVEN A WEEKS NOTICE. That’s not much time to get something made. To make matters worse my arthritis is hurting so bad right now and that always slows me down. *grrr*

I did find a snake pattern I should be able to crochet quickly, even with the bad arthritis flare up. I’ve never met a little boy who didn’t like playing with toy snakes, so he should like it.
