Finished first cap

I finished the first chemo cap last night. I think it turned out nice.( It has an eyelet lace pattern on it.  ) I’m about half way through a second one. (the second one is going to be plain)

Chemo Cap

I started working on a chemo cap last night (for a very nice lady in a knitting and crochet group I belong to) The way the pattern is written was confusing to me. I’m used to patterns going step by step, starting with how many stitches you are supposed to cast on, but THIS pattern explains how to do the pattern repeat first, then it goes on to explain how many stitches you are supposed to cast on to start the hat. That really messed me up, because it didn’t occur to me to read down to the middle of the pattern to find out how to start the darn thing. I riped out several hour worth of work after I discovered my mistake and I’m starting over. Hopefully I’ll have better luck this time, because the hat really is very pretty and even though what I was doing wasn’t quite write, the stitch pattern was turning out very nice.

Knitting Board

I had my birthday on the 6th and I received some birthday money. Now normally what I’m supposed to do with birthday money is to get something fun for me, because anytime I’ve ever done anything responsible with it, it will aggravate who ever gave me the money. (same thing for mothers day) So because of that, birthday money and mothers day money is usually when I buy nice crafty stuff for me that I normally wouldn’t.  That’s how I got my Options knitting needles and my sock looms.
This year though my pet mice needed a larger cage, (the mice and a tube cage were my birthday gift from my husband and children) so I bought them an add on. ( a maze that attaches to there tube cage) My husband agreed they needed more room, but he didn’t like that I spent my birthday money on it. So he said the mice were just borrowing it and as soon as we can afford it, there going to pay me back, because he wants me to spend it on myself instead. LOL!  (the funny thing here is that he is one of the worlds worst at wanting to spend HIS birthday money on me and the kids instead of HIM. hehe He’s a sweet, kind and loving man. I couldn’t have asked for better.)
I’ve been thinking about what I would like to get, and I think I’ve decided on a knitting board. I love my sock looms, but they are small and I’m limited on the size projects I can do on them. Plus my sweety pie really wants me to knit him a blanket and a knitting board would be a fun way to make it. I was thinking I wanted to make his blanket double knit, so it will be thick and warm and both sides will look nice instead of having a right side and a wrong side, and a knitting board is a nice way to make double knit fabric.
Of course my father and brother will also be getting something made on the knitting board since they are the ones who sent me the birthday money in the first place. hehe

Stitch Holder

I stayed up way to late last night watching movies and knitting. Not because of nightmaires thank goodness, but because I wasn’t very tired and I was enjoying myself. I’m paying for it this morning though. I had a hard time getting myself out of bed to get the kids ready and off to school.
When it turned bed time last night, my youngest was already asleep curled up on one side of my lap in the recliner. He looked very comfortable so instead of disturbing him, I went ahead and let him sleep there for a while. I also had our tom cat sleeping on the other side of my lap and in the middle of all this cuddling, I’m knitting on my sweater. hehe I got to a part in my knitting were I need to place some of the stitches on a stitch holder. Well since I was quite buried and I didn’t want to move to much so as not to disturb those who were sleeping on me, the only thing I could reach was my knitting bag. Thankfully I had a couple of stitch holders in there. I was reminded though about how much I don’t like them. The kind I used last night are the kind that look like large safety pins. The problem I have with them is that they come open way to easy for my taste. If I have to leave stitches on them for any amount of time, they will inevitably come open in my bag, come out of my stitches, which then risks some of my work coming unraveled. They work well as short term stitch holders, but if you need a stitch holder that needs to stay put for a good long while my favorite thing to use by far are the short 24" Knit Picks Options cables with the little end caps. They stay put and are very comfortable to work around since they are flexible. The first thing I did this morning after I droped the kids off at school was to take out the metal stitch holder and replace it with a cable. (so much nicer)

I have a problem with nightmairs.
That’s bad for my sleeping, but it’s fantastic for my knitting.
I didn’t get as much knitting done yesterday as I wanted to, but last night I woke up with awfule nightmairs and just couldn’t get back to sleep, so decided to go curl up in the recliner and do some knitting. I knitted for about two hours and I got the back of my red sweater compleated. Also when I finished my mind was in a better place and I was able to go back to sleep.  So yea for that.

My arthritis was hurting me for a while, so I had to put off starting the second monkey for my nephew. (crochet causes me the most pain when I have a flair up) It was hurting me so bad, I wasn’t able to do much of anything for a little while. It’s feeling better now tough and I’ve been able to get a bit more accomplished.
I’ve almost finished my daughters socks. I got all the way to the toe of the second sock. (I like to knit socks from the cuff down) then I ran out of yarn. *sigh* Oh well. I was needing some more of that purple color, because that’s my cousins favorite color and I’m going to make a pare for her. (she’s one of those people who appreciate hand made gifts)
I’ve almost finished the back of my red sweater. I only need 1/2 and inch and I can cast off then start on one of the front panels. I think I should be able to do that today, maybe while I’m waiting to pick the kids up.
Tonight I’m definitely starting on the second monkey, because I want to get those out to my nephews.
